Increasing Our Financial Commitment -- Making a Pledge for 2019!
As a mission-driven parish, the first few years of our five-year pastoral planning, 2015-2020, have been a sacred time of growth. Celebration of the 2016 Year of Mercy led to deepening encounters between parishioners and people living in poverty. As a result, in June 2018 launched “Penfield HOPE,” a proven model of integrated social ministry services started by Webster Hope. Our goal is to provide for unmet needs in our community: a warm winter clothing closet, computer access for job applicants, rent and repairs assistance, back-to-school help, holiday support, and more.
Another parish-wide initiative of our pastoral planning has been to recruit and form more parishioners for ministry. With the encouragement of the Diocese of Rochester and the positive experience of other parishes around the country, we are participating in ChristLife, a Catholic ministry of evangelization to ignite “the New Evangelization,” the joy of the Gospel, and a culture of missionary discipleship. The premise is that to actively engage in ministry we need to first have an encounter with our Lord and Savior. This means we are willing to invite ourselves and others into the process of growing closer to Jesus. Only then can we meaningfully engage in ministry and be ready to share our faith with others. The first of three ChristLife courses, Discovering Christ, will be offered again at St. Joseph’s in Lent. 2019 and winter 2020.
With God’s grace, we seek to be open to the plan of God for our parish community. In addition to HOPE and ChristLife, we seek always to enhance participation in Youth Ministry, Faith Formation, preparation for the Sacraments, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, liturgical ministries, hospitality, pastoral care and all the ways we share the Gospel of Jesus with each other and those newly joining our parish.
Increasing our offertory will allow us to enhance and build upon the mission of our Church. Can you make a sacrificial increase in your offertory pledge for 2019?
