volunteer training & Background check

All volunteers are required to complete training and a background check prior to volunteering. Adults are required to renew their certification every three years. Teen volunteer training is done in person only.

Instructions for adults ages 18 and older:

1. Read the instructions for Adult Online Training (see "LINKS" ). Click the link below to the Diocese of Rochester Safe Environment Training platform.  Safe Environment Training is only available online.  
The course is called "Recognizing and Preventing Child Abuse."

2. Send an email to [email protected] to receive your unique link to the online background check request form and complete it within 5 days.  Alternatively, you may read, complete, sign, and return the paper Background Check Authorization  and copy of your ID (driver’s license, birth certificate, or passport) to the parish office. 

3.  (Drivers only) Read, sign, and return the Volunteer Driver Form

Email or drop off the above documentation and cover sheet to the parish office or mail to St. Joseph’s Church, 43 Gebhardt Rd., Penfield NY 14526.
