Overnight volunteers
For several years, St. Joseph's has provided financial support from our tithing funds to Dimitri House, whose seven-bed overnight shelter provides hospitality and a warm place to sleep for homeless men during the coldest time of the year.
In addition to the financial support from St. Joseph's and the monthly meal, volunteers from our serve as ministers of hospitality at the shelter, located at 102 North Union Street, on Tuesday nights during the November to April shelter season.
This year we have renewed our parish commitment to provide two volunteers every Tuesday night, from 9 pm to 7 am the following morning . We are seeking recruits, both men and women, to augment our current small group of dedicated volunteers.
The duties of ministers of hospitality at Dimitri House are simple and enjoyable: welcoming and socializing with the guests over an evening snack, and preparing and serving them breakfast the following morning before their departure.
