William joined the Navy in 1944 at the age of seventeen and trained to be a naval pilot in the war efforts until the war ended. He went on to earn his accounting degree. He worked at several corporations in Rochester and retired as the Comptroller at Precision Grinding and Manufacturing. He was a devoted family man and always prioritized family life and activities over work or play. His Catholic faith brought him much peace and joy, and he was a faithful follower of the Church’s teachings throughout his life.
Betty had been a parishioner since 1950’s. All of their 5 children attended St. Joseph’s School. She worked with Teachers Aid Group at St. Joseph’s School on special projects. She was a lunch monitor, a Girl Scout leader and provided secretarial support at the school. Betty worked on the Parish Life Group and Friday breakfasts for seniors. She served on Parish Council both as a district rep and secretary. She was a collection counter from 1980-2015 – 35 years!! Betty went to daily Mass as long as she could.
Bob attended the 9:30 mass on Sundays with his brother and sister-in-law. He was an alum of McQuaid Jesuit High School and Clarkson University. Bob serviced the needs of his cliental at Medical Motor Service with a desire to touch their lives and make them smile. He was a very giving person. The center of Bob’s life was his family.
John was a parishioner for 35 years. He was president of the Parish Council under Fr. James Moynihan and Fr. Michael Conboy. He served the parish as an usher for 35 years. John said a daily rosary. He served in the US Naval Reserves then worked at Xerox as a tech rep. after that. John retired from Xerox after 30 years and started a consulting firm. John started teaching in 1989. He taught at RIT, Columbia Graduate Business School, US Business School in Prague, Keuka College, Medaille College and Nazareth College.
At age 16, Elvera left the family farm to find work in Rochester in order to help her family. She worked at the lunch counter at Neisner’s, and at age 18 she was hired by Bausch and Lomb to make Ray Ban’s for the war effort. She and her husband became parishioners at St. Joseph’s in 1981. Ann was very devoted to St. Anne. She attended mass regularly and when she lived at Fairport Baptist Home she watched mass on TV and participated in religious activities and programs there.
Ann was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s for 35 years. She attended Mercy High School and St. Bonaventure. Ann stayed home in the early years when her children were young but had worked at Monroe One BOCES for about 20 years. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Margaret was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s since 1978. She and her husban George owned and operated Maier’s Farm Market and Cider Mill for many years. Margaret managed and worked on the farm in Penfield for 35 years. She worked endlessly to care for her family.
Joan was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s. She raised six children, was a Camp Fire Girl Leader, Religious Education Coordinator, and attended night school at RIT, receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in 1984, while working full time as a Site Supervisor at Eastman Kodak. Upon retirement from Kodak, she continued to work at Nazareth College, and volunteered at St. Joseph’s Church and Shepherd Home in Penfield.
Ed was a Roman Catholic and he belonged to St. Joe’s for 55 years until his death. Ed was an Electrical engineer, who worked and retired from General Railway Signal. He then worked for Penfield Fire Department. Ed spent his adult life as an avid volunteer fireman who would always be ready to help his neighbor. He was the calm in the storm of life.
Davis was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s for over 20 years. He volunteered at the Dimitri House. Davis did the statistics for Rochester Americans (Amerks), Knighthawks, and Rochester Rhinos. He was married to his wife Elsie for 70 years and was very much a family man.
John was a devout main of faith. He was a World War II Veteran, and a talented craftsman and builder. He will be remembered as a loving and supportive husband, father and friend.
Tina was baptized at St. Joseph’s and was a parishioner. She worked as Director of Activities at the Jewish Home. Tina was very good with older people. She was an eloquent speaker and was a happy, smiling, loving person.
Anne-Marie was a devout Catholic. Anne-Marie raised 5 children after her husband died when they were very young. Her family meant the world to her. Ann-Marie worked in a variety of administrative assistant roles, including at Beckett Hall and the old Catholic store.
Tucker was devoted to daily Mass (and live-streaming it every morning for the homebound) and the Rosary. He served as Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Tucker loved his family – who all have cherished memories of their times with him.
Nick was a gentle, kind, caring, thoughtful man. Above all else he was selflessly devoted to his beautiful wife, Roseann, his childhood sweetheart, until her passing. His children, grandchildren and family were his whole life and love. Nicholas was a parishioner over 20 years; prior to Covid he volunteered as a greeter and participated in ChristLife.
Jean was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s for over 60 years. Many of her children were baptized, confirmed, and married at the Church. She was a stay-at-home mom, raising 7 children. Even after Jean was not able to attend Church services in person she still participated through online and other social media. Jean volunteered at the Penfield Volunteer Emergency Ambulance base for around 35 years. She was also a Girl Scout Leader.
Theresa lived to be 104. She treasured her family and enjoyed many dogs that she rescued over the years. She cherished her time at St. Joe’s and was very happy and felt loved and very much supported by the church community. She became a Minister of Communion at age 83, and drove herself and dear friends to Church as long as she was able. Theresa spoke frequently of her gratitude to God for all of her blessings and thanked God multiple times throughout the day.
Other than a 7-year move back to Milwaukee, Sharon had been a parishioner at St. Joseph’s since 1973. Sharon would like to be remembered for the love she had for her husband and children, her love of books, history, education, and her enjoyment of cooking and baking for family and friends.
Sylvia was a parishioner at St. joseph’s Church. Her children and grandkids credit her for many things…their love of classical music, books, birds & animals. They learned about taking care of others and how to make Christmas cookies. She was genuine with her love of family.
Carmine was a parishioner who loved his beautiful Italian family. He and his wife Immacolata were an enduring example of the sacrament of marriage, as they were married for 48 happy years. He was happiest when he was with family.
