HOPE GROWS IN PENFIELD Penfield HOPE becomes a member of Foodlink and Awarded Grant to Prevent Homelessness
July 9, 2019, Penfield, New York—Penfield HOPE is celebrating one year of service to the Penfield community with progress in two areas: Penfield HOPE is now a proud member of Foodlink, and Penfield HOPE is the recipient of an Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) from Monroe County and the City of Rochester.
A ministry of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Penfield HOPE provides comprehensive, integrated services to residents of the 14526 and 14625 zip codes. Services include limited financial assistance for rent, utilities and other emergency needs, children’s diapers and clothing, household items, non-perishable food, and internet access for job searches and benefits applications. Penfield HOPE networks with other local organizations, including Webster HOPE, the Penfield Ecumenical Food Shelf, and other regional outreach ministries.
As a member of Foodlink, Penfield HOPE will have access to more food for its clients and training for its volunteers. This relationship will help supplement the generous donations of staples such as canned goods, cereal, and pasta received from St. Joseph’s parishioners.
The ESG grant allows Penfield HOPE to respond to more requests for emergency rent assistance. The goal is to help Penfield residents with economic hardships to achieve financial stability and avoid eviction or homelessness.
In the past year, Penfield HOPE has assisted more than 80 families in over 250 visits. Volunteers staff three shifts: Mondays 3:00-5:00pm, Tuesday 6:00-8:00pm and Thursdays 10:00-Noon.
