Lou was a graduate of Aquinas High School and the University of Rochester. He was a member of the United States Marine Corp. He retired as Executive VP of Rochester Instrument Systems, Inc. and had previously worked for Stromberg-Carlson in Rochester NY and San Diego, CA. He was a longtime member of Oak Hill Country Club and a member of its Board of Governors. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church.
Lee was a commissioned Army officer in the Korean War and volunteered for overseas duty. Lee was a senior researcher at Eastman Kodak for more than 30 years. He quietly did many good works, including refugee resettlement, tutoring in the jail, and volunteering at a homeless shelter. A communicant of St. Joseph’s Church for 60 years, he served as Parish Council President, head of the Tithing Committee, was a CCD teacher and regular lector, and helped found a volunteer group that provided programming at the Rochester Psychiatric Center for more than 25 years.
Bob served in the United States Army as a Corporal in the Cold War. He entered the Army in 1953 as an army medic at the station in Salzburg Austria - Camp Truscott the 109th Field Hospital. Later this camp's name was changed to the U.S. Army Hospital. He worked at Gleason Works for 45 years. Bob was a member of the West Walworth Fire Department for over sixty years and was a member of the Macedon Senior Citizens group. Bob and Helen were married at St. Joseph’s when it was the “church on the hill” and were parishioners throughout their lives. Bob was a favorite west transept usher.
Elaine was baptized and married, plus had family baptisms at St. Joseph’s Church. She was retired from Bristol Meyers Squibb, after a long and distinguished career in the pharmaceutical industry.
Elly was a teacher’s assistant for pre-school at St. Joseph’s. All of her children went to St. Joseph’s, she remembers attending church in the current ‘learning center’ and when the current church was built. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Medical Transport, and Camp Open Arms. Elly loved tennis – She was known to be very good.
Charity retired from Penfield School District, where she was a lunch lady and cashier. She was a parishioner since 1956. A lifelong parishioner. Charity was a daily communicant and rosary group participant. At St. Joseph’s she was involved in Ladies groups, Bible Study and Senior Citizen groups, Legion of Mary, Ladies Altar Society, Nocturnal devotion, Eucharistic Minister, Food Pantry, and PTA at St. Joseph’s School.
Dorothy was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s. She owned the Winfield Grill with her husband Fred. Dorothy was a 40 plus year member of Penfield Country Club and served as past president of the woman’s association.
Known as the ‘Gentle Giant’ because he was 6’4 but quiet, and very soft spoken. At St Joseph School he was involved as a CYO coach and athletic director – He started girls 5th and 6th grade basketball. He and his wife Trish worked together on many other projects.
Helen prioritized her faith and family as her strength to endure 33+ years as a widow. She was a parishioner since 2015 after moving from Wellsboro PA to be closer to family. She was Roman Catholic with special devotion to the Blessed Mother.
Christine was a single mother for 20 years. She started out as a cosmetologist until her son was born then worked at Xerox for 15 years. She was currently retired. Christine was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s since birth in 1944 until 2005 and then moved to Ontario County. She was devoted to Our Lady – had her rosary in her hand every night.
Ann enjoyed serving her church. Ann and Fred were long-time parishioners of Our Mother of Sorrows in Greece before moving to Penfield 10 years ago and joining St. Joseph’s. Ann served as a greeter and Minister of Communion to the homebound. Ann earned her degree as a Registered Dietician and worked in hospitals and schools. But her favorite job was as a homemaker and stay-at-home mom.
Larry was a US Army veteran. He volunteered for over 20 years with the Penfield Ambulance. Larry was a foster parent for many years with his wife Mary. After retiring and selling his (Penfield Opticians) business, he enjoyed driving a bus for the Fairport School District. He loved watching football and was an avid Buffalo Bills, Clemson and SU fan.
Dave was educated at the Foreman Center and the Mary Cariola Children's Center and was an active participant for 40 years in many workshops for the disabled at the ARC of Monroe, including the Al Sigl Center, the Clinton Ave. Workshop, Mustard St. Workshop, Lyell Ave. Workshop and the Ballantyne day program. He was also a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph's Church and attended religious continuing education for the disabled that his mother had founded.
Elaine was a Catholic school teacher for 24 years. It brought her so much joy and fulfillment. Teaching was her passion as was her family. She came to Mass at St. Joseph's Church with her son and daughter- in- law.
Jeremiah was a 1959 graduate of LeMoyne College and a veteran of the US Army. He was an employee of Kodak for 28 years. Jeremiah was a devout Catholic. He loved the 8am mass and staying after for coffee and donuts. He was a St. Joseph parishioner since 2014 when he moved to Penfield.
John was a proud veteran of the Korean War. He was an alumnus and huge fan of the Ohio State University. He worked as an optometrist at Kodak for 29 years. John was a resident of Penfield and a parishioner of St. Joseph's for 57 years. His children attended St. Joseph School. John worked on many parish committees over the years including the finance committee when we were building the "New Church". He and Patricia were devoted to Mary.
Frances became a member of St. Joseph's Church when the family moved to Penfield in 1957. Family and cooking/baking were very important to her. Not only did she love to cook for her family, but she also spent most of her career in the Penfield Central School system as a cook manager preparing meals for the children and staff in her school as if it was for her family. She was very proud of having served as the cook manager for the campers and staff of the Rotary Sunshine Camp Haccomo for many summers, sharing her love of cooking with some very special people.
Dick became a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in 1963. He was an avid bowler and golfer. He was a past-president, treasurer, and coach for the Penfield Little League. Dick was an engineer with Pfaudler Inc. for most of his career. Dick was a veteran of the Korean War having served as a radio operator.
A proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Donald taught Business at Penfield High School for many years. He was a parishioner since 1964 and their children all attended St Joseph School. He participated in daily Mass at 6:30am before his day began at Penfield High School (with his boys altar serving). He was involved with Phillip the Van and the food ministry.
