We look forward to working with you in this ongoing life-long learning in their development as full, active Catholics. The Sacrament of Reconciliation grows out of the Penitential Act we practice each Sunday at Mass. Our emphasis on the family’s role in reconciliation grows out of the reality that it is within the home that most of us learn to love, to forgive, and to be forgiven. In this sacrament, we come to God with the knowledge that we sin, that our sin hurts our community and ourselves, and that God is anxious to forgive and heal any broken bonds.
In the Diocese of Rochester, Reconciliation is typically celebrated in the second grade prior to the preparation and celebration of First Eucharist. To enroll for First Reconciliation, a child/youth/young adult will have participated in one full year of Faith Formation during the 2022-2023 School year, in our Family Faith, or Catholic School, or attended our 2023 Summer Faith Intensive program.
During the school year, in addition to enrolling in First Reconciliation preparation, a child will attend Family Faith Formation or Catholic School for the 2023-2024 school year, or have attended our 2023 Summer Faith.
Please note that older children who have not as yet received the Sacrament of Reconciliation are most welcome to register. Our Sacramental Preparation sessions include the candidate for the Sacrament and at least one parent. Some sessions are done here at St. Joseph's (or online zoom, depending on circumstances) and most work is done at home, as a family.
